ESPN The Magazine Ranks Red Wings as Top Detroit Franchise

ESPN The Magazine released their 2011 Ultimate Team Rankings, in which they rank every franchise from the “four major” leagues. The Detroit Red Wings came away with the top spot among the Detroit teams (17th overall).

Each francise is rated in eight categories: Bang For The Buck, Fan Relations, Ownership, Affordability, Stadium Experience, Players, Coaching, and Title Track.

Here’s how our Detroit teams finished in the rankings:

    Overall Rank League Rank
1 Detroit Red Wings 17 5
2 Detroit Tigers 52 13
3 Detroit Lions 94 22
4 Detroit Pistons 113 27

It’s interesting to note that the Red Wings rank number one in ownership while the Tigers came in at number sixteen (both are owned my Mike Illitch). Both are good rankings, but it seems like fans of the Wings like how the organization is run even more than the Tigers fans do.
