Jim Leyland sets his pitching rotation for the World Series

If it isn’t broke don’t fix it.

It is great sport in Detroit to second guess every one of Manager Jim Leyland’s decisions. However this one is a no brainer.

•Justin Verlander will pitch Game One of the World Series on the road
•Doug Fister goes in Game Two
•Anibal Sanchez in Game Three
•Max Scherzer in Game Four

Past that we must assume JV would go in game five, and Fister would pitch a game six. That would potentially leave Sanchez to pitch a pivotal Game Seven if Leyland sticks with the four man rotation that he has used since the beginning of the ALCS. It is the plan for either team that the Tigers will face in the Fall Classic. The San Francisco Giants and St. Louis Cardinals will play game seven of the NLCS tomorrow night.

The numbers for these four pitchers are outstanding and what they did in the ALCS against the New York Yankees makes this a very easy call for Leyland. The quartet pitched 27 and 1/3 innings against the Bronx Bombers and only gave up two runs on 14 hits. Collectively their ERA was 0.66. Dave Dombrowski built this rotation to dominate at this time of the year and that is exactly what they are doing.
