Brady Hoke has plenty to smile about as the Michigan Wolverines have a new headlining member of their 2013 recruiting class. Derrick Green, a running back out of Hermitage High School in Richmond, Virginia, announced his commitment to the Wolverines today.
Just how big of a get is this for the maize and blue? Green is ranked by Rivals and Scout as the nation’s top running back recruit, with both placing him in the top ten regardless of position.
However, that isn’t an consensus across the board. Rivals and Scout are probably the two biggest names of all the recruiting websites, but ESPN and 247Sports have risen in popularity in recent years. ESPN ranks Green as their fifth running back while 247 has him at number eight.
Regardless of the exact ranking, this is big news for the Wolverines as they continue their transition to more of a pro-style offense. Green is a 6′, 220 lb. running back that is likely to be in the running back rotation as a true freshman.
Green chose Michigan over Tennessee and Auburn.
