The Detroit Red Wings offense finally woke up in their 5-3 win over the Minnesota Wild on Friday. The return of Todd Bertuzzi proved to be huge for the Wings as he scored twice in his season debut. The two power play goals were the team’s first two of the season.
Now that the Red Wings seem to be back on track, they prepare for a tough test against the division leading and undefeated Chicago Blackhawks. The Hawks have done it the hard way, getting four wins on the road with just one coming at home. And unlike the Red Wings, offense hasn’t been hard to come by. The Blackhawks’ 20 goals is the most in the NHL so far this season.
The suddenly rejuvenated Red Wings offense will get a test against goalie Corey Crawford who sports a 1.99 goals against average and a .923 save percentage.
At the other end of the ice, the Red Wings will need to be stout defensively and keep Marian Hossa, who already has five goals on the year, in check. If the defense doesn’t hang Jimmy Howard out to dry and Howard plays to his potential, the Red Wings could get a much needed road win over their division rival.
A Chicago win sets a new franchise mark for best start to a season with six straight wins.
Prediction: Blackhawks 3, Red Wings 2
