The Detroit Red Wings’ last trip to St. Louis didn’t go so well. It was opening night and they left the ice 6-0 losers. It has been a bit of a rocky road since then but a better showing in St. Louis this time around could signal that the Red Wings are getting closer to where they want to be.

Frankly, they need a better showing to help put consecutive losses to Columbus and Calgary behind them. Offense continues to be an issue for the Red Wings who have managed just three total goals in those two losses. The offense woke up earlier in the year when the Red Wings hosted the Blues at Joe Louis Arena. Henrik Zetterberg was the star that night with five points, including an empty net goal to finish off the hat trick.

Goaltender Jimmy Howard gets his first break of the season after starting the team’s first nine games. In his place between the pipes tonight will be Petr Mrazek to make his NHL debut. Mrazek was a fifth round draft pick by the Wings in 2010.

Prediction: Blues 3, Red Wings 2
