The Michigan State Spartans are playing good ball right now. They’ve won eight of their last nine games with the only loss being on the road to the currently #1 Indiana Hoosiers. There’s certainly no shame in that. But Big Ten games — especially Big Ten road games — offer no chance to relax and pat yourselves on the back. The Spartans should handle the Purdue Boilermakers with relative ease — or at least that’s how it looks on paper — but if they’re looking ahead to their tilt with Michigan next week, then Purdue could very well sneak up on them.

The Spartans won by 23 earlier this year in East Lansing — and they could certainly put up a repeat performance — but it’s never easy to dominate play on the road. Purdue was just walloped by Indiana in their last home game, but they’ve previously beaten Illinois and and played Ohio State to within ten in West Lafayette. Those aren’t in themselves overwhelming results, but it shows that they can be competitive against reasonably good  teams at home.

Prediction: Michigan State 66, Purdue 60
