Another crazy week at the top of the college basketball polls could mean Michigan is once again playing for a number one ranking when they take on the Badgers in Madison. Losses by Indiana and Florida leaves the Wolverines as the next team in line. Even with a win over the Badgers, Michigan could be challenged for a number one ranking by Duke but that may be it considering Kansas was also saddled with a loss this week.
But before a number one ranking can be discussed, Michigan needs to leave one of the Big Ten’s toughest environments with a win. It has been nearly 14 years since the Wolverines won in Madison – a stretch that spans ten games. But this Michigan team is much different than many that have faced the Badgers since 1999.
Michigan must avoid being lulled out of their game by Wisconsin’s methodical style. It will be a lower scoring game than Michigan is used to thanks to the Badgers’ style that limits the number of possessions per game. The key for Michigan will be to get good shots as part of their normal offensive flow while not allowing Wisconsin to milk the clock and still get good shots of their own. Do that and they can regain the number one ranking they lost a week ago.
Prediction: Michigan 66, Wisconsin 61
