NFL Combine: Michigan State's Will Gholston Denies Taking Plays Off

Former Michigan State defensive end Will Gholston had a good junior season but it wasn’t the kind of dominating performance that many thought could propel him into the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He declared for the draft anyway and now has a few questions to answer.

One big question is in regards to his effort level. Some knock Gholston for inconsistent effort, even going so far as to wonder if he simply took some plays off while on the field. That is a notion Gholston refuted today at the NFL combine:

How large of an issue this is with scouts is unknown but any fears that do exist won’t be relieved through words alone. If Will indeed feel into bad habits in his final year at Michigan State, he’ll need to break those to avoid getting lost in the shuffle of an NFL roster. Gholston still possesses a lot of potential, let’s hope he can reach the level he is capable of. Especially if it is as a member of the Detroit Lions.
