Bet you thought the Indiana Hoosiers had the Big Ten Conference title all wrapped up. So did the rest of the conference until the Indiana Hoosiers absolutely choked a game away at The Barn against the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Give Minnesota a little credit. They took care of the ball (10 turnovers) and cleaned up the glass (23 offensive rebounds). That said, no one expected the Gophers to upset the number 1 Hoosiers.
So now the pressure shifts back to the Michigan Wolverines who have two really big games left on their schedule. They close out the Big Ten season against Indiana on March 10th. A game that could be for the Big Ten Title. To have that opportunity they have to get through the Michigan State Spartans who are angry after dropping two straight.
Because of the tie-breaker, the rival Spartans are pretty much out the the Big Ten race barring a complete collapse by Indiana. So they have nothing better to do than to keep the Wolverines on the lower rung of the state basketball ladder.
The Maize Rage will be going blue in the face trying to push their team past the Spartans on March 3rd. The Michigan Wolverines will need more than that though having gone blue in the face from choking a couple of times themselves this season. The 81-73 beating at the hands of the Hoosiers on February 2nd comes to mind. Not to mention the 75-52 embarrassment at the hands on the Spartans at the Breslin Center. But that is another post for another day.
For now Michigan has to play a road against The Penn State Nittany Lions on Wednesday February 27th. Will Penn State be inspired by the Golden Gophers and pull off another Big Ten upset? Will the Michigan Wolverines take advantage of the golden opportunity given to them by the gophers or will they wilt in the spotlight? Find out tomorrow at 6:30 pm on the Big Ten Network.
