GLIAC Tournament: Wayne State Upset In Quarterfinals

The GLIAC men’s basketball tournament got underway today with the quarterfinal round, and it didn’t begin without excitement.

Top seed Wayne State dropped the tournament opener to Lake Superior State by a final score of 70-68, and it took overtime for second seeded Michigan Tech to get past (7) Northwood (eventually doing so 90-80).

Chalk held in the other two games with (4) Grand Valley topping (5) Hillsdale 73-57 and (3) Findlay getting past (6) Ferris State 62-55.

The semifinal and final rounds take place on Saturday and Sunday at the highest seed to survive the quarterfinal round, so that means Wednesday’s four winners will have to head to the Great White North of Houghton, Michigan and the campus of Michigan Tech.

Saturday’s semifinal round will feature:

(3) Findlay at (2) Michigan Tech, 1 PM

(8) Lake Superior State vs. (4) Grand Valley State, 3 PM

The championship game will take place on Sunday at 2 PM.
