The Detroit Tigers made a significant investment in Anibal Sanchez this past offseason when they signed him to a long-term deal. While they have allowed Sanchez to participate in the World Baseball Classic, that doesn’t mean Venezuela gets to completely dictate his use while he is away from Tigers camp.
Yahoo’s Tim Brown reported this little tidbit this afternoon:
Today, Venezuela asked the Tigers for permission to pitch Anibal Sanchez (20 pitches Fri.) on Sunday. Permission denied.

Sanchez got off to a rocky start for Team Venezuela on Friday then got knocked out of the game because of a first inning rain delay. Turning the same pitcher around quickly due to the light workload would be a consideration during the MLB playoffs but it obviously isn’t something the Tigers want Venezuela trying with their $80 million man.
