What was thought to be an active day in free agency, due to the NFL’s new three day negotiating period, turned into a day of pure speculation as the NFL issued an email to each team warning against the possibility of tampering. No agreements, real or implied, are permitted. Agents were leveraging teams against teams, and players were trying to feel out the market. We take a look back at the reports that tied any, and all players to the Lions.
The Detroit Lions reportedly talked with cornerback Antoine Cason’s agent today. The Cousin of former Lions running back Aveion Cason, Antoine has been a turnover machine. At the University of Arizona, Cason had 15 Interceptions in his four year career before being selected with the 27th overall pick by the Chargers in the 2008 draft. Over his five year career in San Diego, Cason has 12 Interceptions and four forced fumbles.
#Browns and #Lions are among teams that have talked to reps for #Chargers CB Antoine Cason, per source. #Chargers still in mix.

This report was assumed, as many have linked the two parties together. Bush makes sense in many ways, however, the Lions can’t overspend on a running back who’s approaching thirty with seven years of wear on the tires.

Outside of the free agent pool, the Detroit Lions were rumored as a potential trade destination for Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back LeGarrette Blount. Much like the rumors of Steven Jackson to Detroit, take this rumor with a grain-of-salt. It makes, virtually, zero sense with the Lions current predicament, as Blount is in the same mold as current Lion running back Mikel Leshoure.
