Miguel Cabrera Back To Camp After WBC Exit

The Team USA defeat of Team Canada means one important thing for the Tigers.  Miguel Cabrera is back in camp.  The other Detroit Tiger WBC competitors are as well.  The Tigers had a number of players participate in the WBC this year.  Team Venezula had three Tigers represented: Miguel Cabrera, Omar Infante and Anibal Sanchez.  Team Canada had Tigers farmhands Cal Iorg and Shawn Hill. Even the Aussies had a Tiger Warwick Saupold.

The only player who remains with his WBC team is Octavio Dotel. Don’t expect him back for a couple of weeks as the Dominican Republic will probably be in the championship round.

So did the WBC help or hurt the Detroit Tigers spring training? Both Miguel Cabrera and Omar Infante performed well.  Cabrera went 3 fo 12 with a homer with 3 ribbies. Infante hit .444 with a stolen base.

And Anibal Sanchez didn’t stress his arm.

All things considered,  I think it turned out well for the Tigers as some of their key players got to play some competitive baseball early in the spring. Whether you like the WBC or hate it you can’t deny that those games are competitive.  Each one of those teams are playing for national pride and that goes a long way for those players when they visit home in the off -season.

Now the attention turns to winning a championship here in the Motor City something Miguel Cabrera and company may be a bit more hungry for after early exits in the World Baseball Classic.  The next game for the Tigers is against the Phillies on March 12th.  First pitch at 1:05 pm.
