NCAA Tournament 2013: Michigan State Spartans Take on Memphis Tigers

The last time the Michigan State Spartans and Memphis Tigers met in the NCAA Tournament, Memphis manhandled the Spartans on their way to a 92-74 win to move into the 2008 elite eight.

While it was the kind of loss no coach could forget, a win today keeps Tom Izzo’s current club in the hunt to accomplish what that 2008 club could not.

The Spartans cruised to a victory over Valparaiso in the second round played on Thursday afternoon but it wasn’t the kind of 40 minute effort Izzo wanted to see. The Spartans enter their third round matchup with Memphis as Tigers but will need to give a more consistent effort to move on to the sweet 16.

Look early in the game to see how Michigan State handles the Tigers’ athleticism. Izzo has stated that Memphis may be the most athletic team the Spartans have faced this year.
