When Trey Burke struggles, the Michigan Wolverines usually struggle. But that wasn’t the case Thursday night when the Wolverines defeated the South Dakota State Jackrabbits in the NCAA Tournament’s second round. Burke finishe just 2-12 from the field, scoring a total of six points. It was the first time Burke had failed to reach double figures in the scoring column.
Michigan will need Burke to be back to his old self today against VCU and their “havoc” style of basketball. Burke’s speed, ball-handling and ability to breakdown a defense will all go a long way towards helping the Wolverines on to the sweet 16. But Burke won’t be able to do it alone. Michigan needs strong games from freshmen Mitch McGary and Glenn Robinson III like they got the other night.
The winner moves on the regional semifinal in Arlington, Texas to face the winner of Kansas-North Carolina
