Detroit Tigers Closer Situation Not Critical

The Detroit Tigers Closer situation should not worry fans.  The recent move by the Detroit Tigers to send Bruce Rondon to Toledo has many fans wondering if the Rondon experiment was a failure.  Bruce Rondon’s spring numbers have been pretty bad.  That said he has shown flashes of the ability that Dave Dombrowski and company believed would be closer worthy.  Sending Rondon down to Toledo was a good move.  While in a MudHens uniform he can work out his control issues without his service clock ticking.

Bruce Rondon will be back with the club eventually.  Until then the Detroit Tigers closer situation will have to be resolved by committee. As far as committees go this one isn’t too bad.  Joaquin Benoit, Al Alburquerque and Phil Coke will all get opportunities to pay fireman early in the season.  Phil Coke looked great in the role in the 2012 postseason. Al Alburquerque has the stuff but is often injured while Jaquin Benoit has the experience. If one of them steps up, problem solved. If not the Detroit Tigers, have a few tricks up their sleave to deal at the trade deadline. Either way the Tigers have enough talent in the pen to get the job done.

My advise to fans: enjoy this season. A team this talented does not come around very often much less to the motor city.  Don’t let the Detroit Tigers closer situation keep you from enjoying the fact that your Tigers have the best hitter and pitcher in the game.
