Mitch McGary was a big time prospect coming out of high school, so the fact that he became a huge contributor for the Michigan as a Freshman this season comes as no surprise. But he’s been a major factor for the Wolverines both down the stretch in the regular season and into the NCAA Tournament.
ESPN’s Chad Ford says his NBA draft stock is rising based on his recent performance, and thinks he’d now be a first round selection. But McGary is apparently putting all of that aside for now, saying that he’ll be back in Ann Arbor next season.
“I haven’t even thought about (leaving),” he told MLive.com after practice Tuesday at the Crisler Center. “I don’t have a decision to make — I’m coming back.”
Is he 100 percent sure?
“Yeah,” he said with a laugh. “I’m coming back.”
Things can change, we’ve seen players change their minds before, but McGary seems to be adamant that he’s not even going to consider the NBA. Maybe he just loves playing at Michigan, or perhaps he simply wants to up his stock further to lottery level (as Trey Burke did this year). Either way though, his presence in the lineup next year will be key if they hope to repeat their NCAA run next season.
