Yesterday the Detroit Lions Complete NFL 2013 Regular Season Schedule was released. The Lions have several elite teams on the schedule and they are nearly all scheduled at home. The biggest home game comes on Monday Night December 16th against the Baltimore Ravens. That could be a huge game with possible playoff implications if both teams are in the hunt as expected. The Thanksgiving game is an ole fashioned donnybrook against division rival Green Bay Packers. That will be the second time the teams meet in the season and again could have playoff implications.
The home field advantage will be helpful for a Lions team that has to play the second toughest schedule in the NFL. The Lions 2013 strength of schedule ranks 2nd behind the Carolina Panthers.
Despite the high difficulty, the NFL 2013 regular season schedule really sets-up well for the Detroit Lions. There are winnable games in the first half which could have the Lions hunting for playoff prey during the second half of the season. Furthermore, most of the tough games are scheduled at home where the Detroit Lions 12th man (their Superbowl hungry fans) can get involved.
It is way too early to predict a record but with the way the schedule lays out the Lions could be a playoff contender this year. 4 of the last six games are at home and that can be a huge advantage for any team making a playoff run. If they remain healthy and fill more needs in the upcoming draft the Lions will be sitting atop the NFC Central.
