Detroit Tigers Defeat Minnesota Twins 4-3

The Minnesota Twins took an early lead in tonight’s game doing what the Minnesota Twins do. Scratching, clawing and pushing runs across the plate with sacrifices and fielders choice. It looked as if the Twins would spoil the momentum from the Detroit Tigers sweep of the Braves over the weekend.  But that is until Prince Fielder hit a three run shot in the sixth to put the Tigers up for good.

Max Scherzer had another solid pitching performance giving up three runs over 7 1/3 innings and striking out 10.  That marks the third time he has struck out ten or more this season. Drew Smyly entered the game in the 7th to relieve Scherzer and got the next four outs before giving way to Joaquin Benoit who notched his 2nd save of the season.

It a great start to the series against a team that always plays the Tigers tough.

With the win the Detroit Tigers extend their winning streak to 4 games.  The boys of summer will try to make it 5 tomorrow night at Comerica Park.  Justin Verlander will face Vance Worely in a 7:08 start.  Verlander left his last start early after developing a blister on his pitching hand. Something to watch as the Tigers Ace goes for his third win of the season. You can catch the game on Fox Sports Detroit.
