The Detroit Tigers offense continued to beat up on opposing pitching behind another home-run from Prince Fielder.  Fielder hit his second dinger in as many days giving him 2 HR and 5 RBI in the series.  The long ball gave the Tigers a 6-1 lead in the fifth. And with the way the Tigers pitchers are going that was more than enough.

Justin Verlander showed no signs of blister trouble going 7 innings while giving up 1 run, scattering 5 hits and striking out 8. The win pushes Verlander’s record to 3-2. Drew Smyly continued to impress appearing in the eighth for the second straight day and holding the Twins scoreless.

Game Notes

  • Joe Mauer snapped an 0-21 streak that sunk his average from .375 to .278
  • Al Albuquerque appeared in the ninth giving up a hit, issuing a walk and committing a baulk.
  • Alex Avila hit a solo home run in the third inning

The Tigers will go for the sweep on Wednesday at Comerica Park.  Sanchez vs. Diamond.  First pitch 1:08. Game will be on Fox Sports Detroit.  Reaction will be on Detroit Jock City!
