Jose Valverde Blows Save And Detroit Tigers Lose In 10 Innings.

Nobody is perfect and you can’t expect a closer to convert every save opportunity in a season. But to blow them by walking the first two batters in the inning is unacceptable.  That is what Detroit Tiger’s closer Jose Valverde did in the ninth before giving up the game tieing run on a single by the  Cleveland Indian’s Micheal Brantley. Thar set up Mark Reynolds to win it with and RBI single in the 10th inning.

This was a big save to blow.  The surprising Cleveland Indians have been one of the hottest teams in baseball over the last couple of weeks winning 8 of their last 10. Todays win ties them with the Detroit Tigers for first place in the American League Central at 20-15 and guarantees they will be hanging around for a while this season.

The Cleveland Indians are a different team under manager Terry Francona.  They play loose and with confidence and don’t give away at-bats. A combination that could prove troublesome for a Detroit Tigers team that planned on running away with their division this year. That is why a blown save against a division rival has a bigger effect than most. A Cleveland Indians team with nothing to lose should gain confidence after winning a series by taking out the Tigers ace and their closer on consecutive nights.

The Detroit Tigers have lost 4 of their last 5 games and will try to get back on track against the Houston Astros on Monday night in Comerica Park at 7:05pm.  Stay with Detroit Jock City for all the latest Tigers news and views.
