Tonight the Detroit Red Wings take the ice at the United Center for Game 1 of the Western Conference Semi-Finals. Their opponent, The Chicago Blackhawks are formidable to say the least. The Blackhawks are the Presidents Trophy winners, Central Division Champions and swept the season series with the Wings in the regular season 4 games to none. Ironically, that is the same number of wins they will need to sweep the Detroit Red Wings out of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
So is this a Chicago sweep in the making?
If the Stanley Cup Playoffs have taught us anything it is that you can’t predict playoff success based on regular season results.
Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk are different players than they were in the regular season. You could say that they are in midseason form. That makes sense because if it wasn’t for the NHL’s strike shortened season it would be midseason if you consider the number of games played. That is why I think the Red Wings will defeat the Chicago Blackhawks in 7 games in an original six series that could be one of the best in recent memory.
In case you are wondering where to find the games on TV, the coverage shifts to the NBC sports network.
