NBA Draft Lottery: What if the Detroit Pistons Won?

What if theDetroit Pistons won the first overall pick in tonight’s NBA Draft Lottey?  Who would they pick? According to Chad Ford of ESPN if the Pistons got the chance to draft #1 they would draft shooting guard Ben McLemore.  McLemore was part of a Kansas team that gained a #1 seed in this years NCAA tournament.  He is entering the draft after his freshman year and is a raw but talented shooter.

McLemore averaged 15.9 PPG with 2 assists in his freshmen season at Kansas.  McLemore is criticized for being inconsistent in big games  at the end of the regular season and tournament.  He averaged only 11 points per game in the tournament and that was boosted by a 20 point game against Michigan in the Sweet 16.

The Pistons have a enough guys that are inconsistent shooters.  Not only that someone as raw as Ben McLemore will need coaching and right now the Pistons don’t have one.

The Detroit Pistons do need a shooter.

No doubt about it.

But with all the uncertainty in the organization right now is McLemore the right pick.  With other options available wouldn’t be in the Pistons best interest to draft a sure-fire NBA star with that first overall pick.  With plenty of cap space available we can fill our other needs with a free agent signing.

Well before we have that discussion the Pistons have to win NBA Draft Lottery first.

In the meantime watch this impressive video of Ben McLemore highlights
