While doing interviews about the NBA Draft lottery last night. Joe Dumars spoke publicly about the Pistons Head Coach vacancy saying that it would not extend into the NBA’s summer free agency period that begins July 1st. As David Mayo reported for M-Live, Owner Tom Gores and Joe Dumars are on the same page with the timeline.
“We definitely want to have it done by then,” Dumars said. “We’re not going to drag this out. Tom and I have talked about this and we want to turn this over as quick as possible.”
Joe Dumars also seemed delighted at the people he has interviewed that the media hasn’t picked up on. He didn’t name any names saying only that he has talked to a lot of people.
Dumars also commented on Phil Jackson saying that they spent a significant amount of time together and have talked since Jackson was in town.
So what are Joe Dumars and Tom Gores waiting for. My guess is they are waiting to see where the top two coaching candidates, Brian Shaw and Mike Budenholzer, chose to land. The two teams that employ them are in the conference finals right now. So conceivably we may have to wait until after the NBA finals before any kind of decision is made.
Out of the possible candidates, who do you think should be the Pistons Head Coach?
