The Detroit Tigers did what they had to do in beating the Twins.  Minnesota came into this weekend four game series on an 8 game losing streak.  The Twins losing skid reached 10 before snapping it on Saturday with a 3-2 victory. The Tigers bounced back on Sunday with a 6-1 victory on Sunday.

The Tigers benefited from some great pitching again this weekend.  Sanchez threw a 1-hitter on Friday. Doug Fister gave up only 3 runs in a losing effort on Saturday and Scherzer continued to be the Tigers best starter on Sunday while giving up only 1 run over 6 innings. The bullpen wasn’t shabby either throwing 5 scoreless innings over the final two games of the series.

Scherzer Thing

Max Scherzer has been the Detroit Tigers Ace for the first part of the 2013 season.  Scherzer’s win today pushes his record to 7-0, good for second in the American League. His 81 strikeouts are good for 2nd in the American League. With his performance this season he is starting to get some Cy Young love. It certainly has been helpful considering Justin Verlander’s struggles to start the season.

Getin’ Miggy With It

Miguel Cabrera’s start to the season continues to be a story throughout baseball. He added 1 HR and 5 RBI pushing his RBI total to a major league leading 57.

The Tigers have won 5 of their last 6 and sit atop the American League Central once again.  They continue their home stand against The Pittsburg Pirates on Memorial Day at Comerica Park.
