2013 NBA Draft: Trey Burke May Slide To Detroit Pistons

Could Joe Dumars and the Detroit Pistons get lucky again? They may have a top 5 player slide to them in the draft. That is what ESPN insider Chad Ford is predicting in his latest mock draft.

Michigan Wolverine point guard Trey Burke isn’t sliding for any other reason than team need.  Experts say this favors the Detroit Pistons because it has been speculated lately that the Pistons might draft a true point guard moving Knight to the 2. The Detroit Pistons would also be willing to take PG Micheal Carter-Williams or PG C.J. McCollum if they are still on the board. Chad Ford has Carter-Williams going 7 to the Sacramento Kings. Ford adds that if the point guards are off the board Cody Zeller could be available here to fill out the front court.

If the Pistons draft a point guard what does that say for the prospect of Jose Calderon returning to the Pistons?  Moving Brandon Knight from the point at this stage may be detrimental to his development. The Pistons should pursue Calderonin free agency to play they 2. Then they can get a player in the draft that can flat-out shoot. Jose Calderon is a known commodity and it would be better to sign him rather than move players around to make a draft pick fit. The need for the Detroit Pistons is at small forward and they should draft to fill that need.

If Shabazz Muhammad is still on the board, he should be the Pistons pick at #8. Muhammad is a natural scorer and strong finisher at the rim. Something the Detroit Pistons have been missing at the small forward spot for the last couple of seasons.
