Joaquin Benoit Is The Closer...Kinda

Jim Leyland is trying to handle the controversy started by Jose Valverde’s recent melt down.  Jason Beck tweeted comments Jim Leyland mad about the closer situation before today’s game:

Beck later replied with this tweet:

Once again, spot on analysis by Beck. This does sound a lot like the closer committee experiment that was utilized with little success at the beginning of the season. Seem like the closer committee has been called to order, question is who’s got the gavel. For now it seems to be Joaquin Benoit. Leyland is clearly uncomfortable with the closer by committee., so if Joaquin Benoit shows any ability to close at all he will probably stick with the career set-up man.

The Valverde situation will take another turn tomorrow when the Tigers decide who to send down to Toldeo. It is unlikely they will keep Alvarez on the roster as Anibal Sanchez will probably make his next start. Will the Tigers bring up Avisial Garica and add his hot bat to a struggling line-up. They could keep Alvarez on the roster and release Valverde. Either way the situation will come to a head soons as roster move will force the Detroit Tigers is make some tough decisions.
