Detroit Tigers Closer Jose Valverde Designated For Assignment

According To John Heyman’s twitter account,  Jose Valverde has been designated for assignment.

Jose Valverde has struggled as of late giving up 6 home runs in six innings. Valverde was officially removed as closer last night by Jim Leyland who said he would use Valverde as the closer if he was available and healthy. The new closer plan was not test last night as the Tigers needs a walk-off in the ninth to beat the Red Sox. It is unclear who the Tigers will call up to replace Valverde but sources say it will be Bruce Rondon. Rondon is 1-1 with a 1.01 ERA and 14 saves for the Toledo Mudhens.
