There are a couple of teams with multiple first round picks that are looking to move into the Top 5 of the 2013 NBA Draft. The players those teams are targeting could affect who is available to the Detroit Pistons at the #8 spot.
- The Oklahoma City Thunder have the #12 and #29 picks in the first round. They are trying to package them with a player to move up. Targeted players are Alex Len, Nerlens Noel or Anthony Bennett. If OKC jumps up to take one of these players then more guards will be available at #8.
- The Utah Jazz have the 14th and 21st picks and also would like a better position. They are also focused on many of the big men about are also in the market for a guard. Ben McLemore or Trey Burke could be on their radar.
- The Atlanta Hawks have expressed late interest in Trey Burke. With speculation that Burke is not likely to slide past the Detroit Pistons, The hawks may be able to deal those two picks for a position ahead of Detroit.
- Minnesota Timberwolves are also in play for a trade up. They have the most leverage with the 9th and 26th picks. They could cause trouble for the Pistons by leapfrogging them to pick one of the higher ranked players if they start to slide.
The Pistons may be the recipient of a draft day trade. If a player one of the above teams covets starts to slide, Joe Dumars could score an extra first rounder.
