In an effort to stabilize an under-performing bullpen, the Detroit Tigers have recalled Bruce Rondon fromToledo. Rondon has been pitching very well in Toledo posting 1-1 record with a 1.52 ERA. His secondary numbers are good as well. 40 K’s in 29 inning pitched, 0.91 WHIP, Rondon has been dominating triple A.
Rondon was originally slated to be the closer this season but miss steps at the beginning of the season caused Rondon to get sent back to Toledo. Then closer madness ensued resulting in closer by committee and ultimately resigning Jose Valverde. Valverde had a decent start but the wheels came off and he gave up 6 home runs in 6 innings. That led to Valverde being designated for assignment.
The uncertainty has spread to the rest of the bullpen where a series of inconsistent performances have caused the Detroit Tigers brass to take a series look at their bullpen.
His call up will also answer a few questions. Does Bruce Rondon have what it take to pitch in the show? A very important question as the Detroit Tigers approach the trade deadline. An answer to that question will determine if the Detroit Tigers have to acquire a reliever at the trade deadline.
