NBA free agency begins at midnight tonight and with about 22 million in cap space the Detroit Pistons are expected to be major players. In todays 2013 NBA Free Agency News, the Detroit Pistons are expected to pursue free agent small forward Josh Smith according to ESPN’s Mark Stein.
RT @ramonashelburne: Josh Smith expected to have 5-6 suitors when free agency begins (HEARING DETROIT IS GONNA BE ONE OF THOSE 5-6)

Other teams in pursuit of Josh Smith should be the Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets and Atlanta Hawks. All of those teams are also said to be suitors for Dwight Howard and will probably purse Smith as a secondary option.
Josh Smith has spent his entire 9 year career with Atlanta and will be seeking a max deal. Last season Josh Smith averaged 17 point and 8 rebounds per game. He has also been durable playing 35 minutes a game while playing in 76 games.
So would Josh Smith be a fit for the Pistons? The Pistons have an issue with scoring from the wing and Smith can help with that. He also is a veteran that could help the Detroit Pistons quest to make the 2013-14 playoffs.
All in all, Josh Smith is a player that a team would add to be a final piece to a championship puzzle. But because he is requiring a max deal and the Pistons are nowhere near competing for a championship, it not might be wise for the Joe Dumars to pursue that kind of free agent now.
