With the 20th pick in the 2013 NHL Draft Detroit Red Wings select Anthony Mantha, LW from the CHL. Mantha is 6′ 4″ and shoots left. Good thing, because a left-handed shot is something the Red Wings have lacked in years past. another thing the Wings have lacked is goal scoring depth. Mantha brings that to the table and is described as a pure goal scorer with great offensive awareness.
The Red Wings originally had the 18th pick until they traded it to San Jose for the 20th and 56th overall. With the trade, Ken Holland shows once again why he is an elite general manager getting his man while picking up an extra pick in the process.
Elite Hockey prospects describes Anthony Mantha’s game like this:
Mantha is a brilliant skater with great speed. He is a dangerous scorer with a very good shot and quick release, which he loves to use. Mantha has very good size and reach and knows how to hold on to the puck. While receiving criticism for inconsistency, he has improved his defensive play and physicality. Once he adds some grit aggressiveness into his play, Mantha has the tools to become a solid top-six NHL forward.
