NBA Free Agency: Josh Smith Meets With Detroit Pistons

NBA free agency started at 12:01 am this morning and Josh Smith has already met with the Pistons according to ESPN.com.  The free agent small forward’s first stop on his free agency tour was with the Detroit Pistons who are in the market for a small forward.

Josh Smith is just the kind of free agent the Pistons should target. He is only 27 and has a track record of success.  If the Pistons are able to acquire him he could be part of a formidable front court for the next few seasosn.  The contract will likely fit as well.  Smith made just over 13 million last season while averaging 17.5 points.  A three or four year deal with Smith would fit under the cap and give Dumars some additional flexibility for trades and other second tier free agent acquisitions.

It is a good sign for the Pistons that one of the most sought after free agents chose to visit Auburn Hills right out of the gate.  If players around the league think the Detroit Pistons are headed in the right direction that can help further Dumars ‘ rebuilding effort in the next couple off-seasons.
