Breaking: Former Red Wing Valtteri Filppula Sign With Tampa Bay Lightning

Multiple sources are reporting the Tampa Bay Lightning have signed Detroit Red Wing free agent center Valtteri Filppula for a 5 year 25 million dollar deal.

Filppula has been criticized by fans over the last few season for his streaky goal scoring and play-off scoring droughts. The Red Wings essentially trade Filppula for Stephen Weiss whom the Wings signed for 5 years $4.9 million in the opening hours of NHL free agency.

Valteri Filppula scored 100 goals in 8 seasons with the Red Wings.  He set his career mark for goals in a season in 2012 with 23 goals. In last years strike shortened season, Filppula scores 9 goals and tallied 8 assists.  Filppula signed a contract with conference rival Tampa Bay and General Manger Steve Yzerman who played with Filppula his final season in Detroit.
