On the first day of NHL Free Agency Detroit Red Wings have been busy already making an offer to Daniel Alfredsson. Now the next free agent the Wings seem to be targeting is Florida Panthers center Stephen Weiss.

Stephen Weiss missed the majority of last years strike shortened season with a lingering wrist injury. The injury limited him to 17 games and 1 goal. That said, Weiss has four 20 goal seasons under his belt in 9 full NHL seasons.  He is considered one of the top ten free agents on the market this year.

Weiss should be hungry for the play-offs as well, He has just one play-off season in 2012 in which scored 3 goals and recorded 2 assists in 7 games. Weiss will likely be expensive commanding an estimated 5-6 millions dollar contract.  The 29 year old Weiss is entering his 12th NHL season.

Stephen Weiss figures to be the Wings 2 line center with the probable departure of Valteri Filippa. With the talent level the Wings possess, Stephen Weiss could be in-line for a 60 point season.
