ESPN is reporting that Josh Smith has agreed to a 4 year $56 million contract with the Detroit Pistons.  The Pistons targeted Josh Smith the first day and it appears they have got their man.  Smith was also being courted to return to the Atlanta Hawks.  The Houston Rockets also were trying to recruit Smith to play next to the recently signed Dwight Howard, his childhood friend.

Josh Smith will play the Small forward position for the Pistons.  He gives the Pistons some much-needed scoring from the perimeter and can also  play down low offering new head coach Maurice Cheeks a dual-threat in the front court.

Josh Smith’s contract will hit the Detroit Pistons salary cap for roughly $14 million leaving Joe Dumars about $6 million to pursue another free agent.
