Detroit Tigers And Cleveland Indians Play Pivotal Game Tonight

If you are a baseball fan, it is games like this that get the heart pumping. The Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Indians play a pivotal game tonight at Progessive field in Cleveland.  It is as big a game as the Tigers have had this season for competitive and historical reasons.

A win tonight will give the Tigers a 3 1/2 game lead over the second place Indians and should place them firmly in control of the American League Central.  A loss will keep the race close with only a 1 1/2 game lead over the Fighting Franconas. The outcome of the game could shape the way either team approaches the trade deadline and the ensuing stretch run.

The Detroit Tigers couldn’t ask for a better pitcher on the mound tonight than Max Scherzer, who will try to extend his undefeated mark to 14-0. Scherzer will attempt to become the first pitcher since Roger Clemens in 1986 to start 14-0. After starting 14-0 in 1986,  Clemens went on to win the Cy Young and MVP, a feat not matched until the Detroit Tiger’s Justin Verlander accomplished it 2011.

We have passed the halfway point of the season now so every game counts. This is a game ans a series the Tigers need to put in the win column.  With 19 of the remaining games coming against the hapless Chicago Whitesox, the Tigers have an opportunity to take a good lead in the standings and turn it into a commanding lead.  This game is not a must win game. But it is a close to a must win a mid-season game can get.
