Detroit Lions To Host Bowl Game

Ford Field will be host to a Bowl Game sponsored by the Detroit Lions starting in 2014.

Exit Motor City Bowl enter the Honolulu Blue Bowl?  A few months after it was announced the Motor City Bowl was finished, a new partnership between the Big Ten and the Detroit Lions will bring a December Bowl Game back to Detroit.  The new Bowl Game has yet to be named but will feature a Big Ten team.  A Bowl committee will convene to choose a worthy opponent and evaluate the best possible match-up. The first game for the new Bowl is penciled in for December 30, 2014

Detroit Lions President, Tom Lewand said in a statement through the teams website:

“We are thrilled to be hosting a new bowl game in Detroit that will be anchored by an annual commitment from the Big Ten,” said Detroit Lions Team President Tom Lewand. “In addition to showcasing our city and its rich football tradition, this game will be an opportunity for fans to enjoy a postseason matchup featuring one of college football’s best conferences.”

The Detroit Lions will own and operate the bowl becoming the second NFL team to do so in recent years, the other being the Houston Texans.
