Connor Cook went into 2012 with minimal expectations, going 5-of-6 for 47 yards and a touchdown in his only pass attempts of the regular season versus Central Michigan University. But following a profoundly mediocre start from fellow quarterback Andrew Maxwell, Cook entered the Spartans bowl game. What followed, left Spartan fans hoping to see more this upcoming season. He ignited an offense, and led them down the field — on their final possession — for a Dan Conroy 47-yard field goal to give the Spartans the victory over TCU.

According too Bruce Feldman of CBSsports, he’s taking the necessary steps toward becoming the Spartans starter.

Mark Dantonio has been very vague on his quarterback situation — which features Senior Andrew Maxwell, Cook, Tyler O’Connor and incoming Freshman Damion Terry — but Cook has every intention to win this position battle.

With as much talent as this group has, it will certainly hear the a ton of buzz as we trot closer to the season opener.

  • Andrew

I would not be surprised if Cook overtook Maxwell as starter sometime this season, especially if Maxwell struggles early on.

You have to remember, Cousins struggled mightily his inaugural season too. I expect Maxwell to make significant strides this season.
