The Detroit Tigers latest effort to obtain a right-handed reliever before the 2013 MLB Trade Deadline leads them to San Diego and RHP Luke Gregerson. According to John Morosi, The Detroit Tiger have had scouts watching the Padre/Brewers series this week.
Luke Gregerson has appeared in 45 games for the San Diego Padres posting a 2.79 ERA and a .978 WHIP. He would fit nicely into the 7th inning rotation with Bruce Rondon and Al Albuquerque. The question again will be price. The Braves, Pirates, Phillies, Dodgers and Red Sox are just some of the teams in the market for bullpen help. The Padres are said to be looking for top end pitchers but the Tigers are not likely to pay that price for a reliever.
The Tigers have taken a greater interest in Luke Gregerson after The Brewers traded Francisco Rodriguez to the Baltimore Orioles for a minor league in-fielder. If Dave Dombrowski and the Tigers want to acquire a solid reliever they should make their move soon. With the 2013 MLB trade deadline just days away, more relievers will be coming off the board as teams look fill holes in the pen for the stretch run.
