Westland Michigan’s Daron Cruickshank will fight on the undercard this weekend for UFC on Fox 8. The “Detroit Superstar” grew up in Westland Michigan and was an all-state wrestler at Olivet college. Cruickshank has MMA in his blood. Both parents were blackbelts in Tae Kwon Do and his mother fought professionally as a kickboxer. Cruickshank represents many Detroit-based MMA gyms like Courageous MMA that are developing talent to fight at high levels in the sport.
Daron Cruickshank burst onto the MMA scene as a cast member of The Ultimate Fighter 15 where he beat Chris Tickle by unanimous decision. This Saturday he will fight Yves Edwards on the UFC on Fox 8 undercard. This isn’t the first time Daron Cruickshank (12-3 MMA 2-1 UFC) has appeared in UFC on Fox. He knocked out Henry Martinez on December 8th, 2012 during UFC on Fox 5. Cruickshank was chosen to replace the injured Spencer Fisher for the upcoming UFC in Seattle. The “Detroit Superstar” looks to bounce back after a defeat at the hands of John Makdessi at UFC 158. That loss snapped a 6 fight win streak and a 2 fight win streak in UFC promoted events.
Cruickshank will fight on the FX portion of the televised event starting at 5pm. The main event John Moraga vs. Demetrious Johnson will air on Fox starting at 8pm.
