On the eve of the MLB Trade Deadline, the Detroit Tigers have made a trade to cover the hole left by a now probable Jhonny Peralta suspension. The three team deal between the Red Sox , White Sox and Tigers involves The Tigers Avisail Garcia and Brayan Villareal, the Chisox Jake Peavy, BoSox Jose Iglesias. The Detroit Tigers trade will net them shortstop Jose Iglesias for their part of the three team deal.
Jose Iglesias is hitting .330 for the Red Sox in 212 at-bats. However his real value is in his defense and can play 2B, SS and 3B effectively. His skills with the glove should be an upgrade from Perlata at shortstop.
Jhonny Peralta faces a suspension for his involvement in the BioGenesis scandal that has already claimed the Brewers Ryan Braun and Yankees Alex Rodriguez. Perlata is a free agent following this season and by getting Iglesias, the Tigers solve current and future issues at shortstop. For being forced into a trade the Tigers have come out pretty good.
With Omar Infantes recovery from an ankle injury delayed, Jose Iglesias provides the Detroit Tigers with insurance at shortstop and second base. Insurance the Tigers will need if they plan on meeting the high expectations of their fans.
