The Detroit Lions rolled into Cleveland lloking to improve their Preseason record to 2-0. That wasn’t in the cards as the Lions played undisciplined football en route to a loss to the Cleveland Browns.
The Lions first half was marred with sloppy defensive play and the inability to stop the Cleveland offense. Cleveland running back Trent Richardson carried the ball 6 times for 33 yards but the real hero for Cleveland was Brandon Weeden who passed for 117 yards and 2 TD’s.
The Lions offense didn’t fair much better only averaging 3.7 yards per play. Matt Stafford couldn’t get anything going managing only 76 yards on 11 completions. Reggie Bush rushed for only 15 yards on 8 carries but did have success catching the ball gaining 44 yards on 5 catches.
Jim Schwartz said it best when he said during his halftime interview “Poor, we had three personal fouls and we can’t stop the run. Poor performance”
The only points for the Detroit Lions came from the kicking game. David Akers knocked one in from 48 yards and Havard “kickalicious” Rugland scored from 33 yards out.
The Lions will try to right the ship against the Patriots next Thursday August 22nd at Ford Field. Click on Detroit Jock City for all the latest Lions news, views and game reaction.
