Calvin Johnson was back at practice on Saturday and according to Kyle Meinke of MLive.com, was showing no ill effects of the knee bruise that kept him out of last Thursday’s preseason game against the Cleveland Browns.
He certainly didn’t look rusty while grabbing a few impressive balls in the afternoon heat, including one one-handed grab deep down the sideline against top cornerback Chris Houston.
However there were some notable absences at practice this weekend although probably for precautionary reasons. Nick Fairley missed practice on Saturday because of illness, Shaun Hill rested Saturday but returned on Sunday while Chris Houston was given limited reps.
Although the Detroit Lions haven’t looked particularly sharp this preseason, they have emerged from both games without major injury. That is something different from a team that got bitten by the injury bug hard in 2012.
The only exception to this has been safety Louis Delmas. Delmas hasn’t practiced mush this season and will likely miss the upcoming preseason game #3 when the Lions welcome the New England Patriots to Ford Field. Although Head Coach Jim Schwartz is hopeful Delmas will rejoin practice on Monday and reports he has had no set backs.
