Detroit Tigers: Offense saves Bullpen

The bullpen tried to give this game away, however Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder carried the day on Saturday.  Jim Leyland was impressive, before he was kicked out, with a squeeze bunt that worked.  Once again the bullpen has let the team down.  Cabrera doubled in a run to take the lead 4-3, then Prince homered to take a 5-4 lead, and finally Cabrera hit a walk off home run to win the game 6-5.

The bullpen should give Cabrera and Fielder a big thank you for saving them last night.  I thought that the bullpen was settled when they traded for Jose Veras, but after that great 12 game winning streak the bullpen has let the team down.  The starting pitchers have 16 wins in the last 26 games, but most of those were during the 12 game winning streak.  The starting pitchers have to feel like they need to go 8 innings to get the team a win.  With the exception of Joaquin Benoit the bullpen has been bad over the last 10 games.

Thank you Prince and Cabrera for once again powering this team to a victory.  These two have had their ups and downs all season but when there on they are the best in the game.  Cabrera is only 5 home runs behind Davis for leading all 3 triple crown categories.  His historical season is awe-inspiring.  However the team needs the bullpen to get settled or this will be another frustrating playoff run for the Tigers.
