The Detroit Lions will play their final preseason game against the Buffalo Bills on Thursday and for some players it is the last chance to impress the coaching staff and win a spot on the 53 man roster. Some of the position battles have been settled. Others like wide receiver, tight-end and line-backer are still under evaluation.
What To Watch For:
The receivers have had a terrible camp and the Lions coaching staff is waiting for one of them emerge as the #2 receiver. Calvin Johnson has missed the last two preseason games with a bruised knee and the result has been an anemic offense. Don’t expect to see Calvin in the final preseason game either. Head Coach Jim Schwartz would rather have Megatron 100% for the regular season than see him take a single snap in the exhibition season.
Joesph Fauria has been diffiuclt to ignore this preseason but with Pettigrew and Scheffler already entrenched on the Lions roster, it might be difficult for Fauria to earn a spot as a third tight-end. The only hope for Fauria is if he can continue to show versatility and earn some snaps at receiver.
Reggie Bush will be the Lions lead running back. But who will be the thunder to Bush’s lightning. Joique Bell has shown in camp that last year was no fluke. He will be pushing hard in the final preseason game to convince the coaching staff that he is worthy of the #2 role.
