On the final day of August the Detroit Tigers beat the Cleveland Indians 10-5. Anibal Sanchez threw 6.2 innings and gave up 3 runs while striking out 5. Omar Infante for just the eighth time in his career hit two home runs in one game and had 5 rbi’s. Once again the bullpen tried to give the game away but the offense saved the day. Jose Veras gave up 2 runs in the top of the eighth inning cutting the lead to 6-5. The bottom of the eighth the Tigers scored 5 runs to put the game away 10-5. All of this adds up to the continuation of Detroit’s dominance over Cleveland this year. Detroit has now won 16 of the 19 games this year.
Luckily for the bullpen Miguel Cabrera gave Omar Infante his superman cape for the evening. Miguel Cabrera was sidelined due to irritating his abdominal muscle in the previous game. In an unbelievable show of power Omar hit 2 home runs and drove in 5 runs. Omar has had a great year after batting only .257 last year after the trade that brought him here from Miami. This year he is hitting .317, which is exactly what the Tigers needed from their second baseman. He has solidified the second base position this year after the trials and tribulations of last year. He has also made the back end of the lineup something the other teams have to worry about instead of last year when it was almost an automatic out for the bottom three. His play could make all the difference in the playoffs between another losing year or finally winning the World Series.
