Detroit Lions V Minnesota Vikings Final Score: Lions Beat Vikings 34-24

The Detroit Lions opened the season with a standout performance at Ford Field earning a 34-24 victory over the division rival Minnesota Vikings.  Reggie Bush was the player of the game offensively in his Detroit Lions debut gaining  90 yards rushing and 101 yards receiving to go with two touchdowns.  Michigan native and Wayne State standout Joique Bell was brilliant in the red zone, carrying the ball for two touchdowns.

The other big story was the Lions defense.  The Lions did an excellent job containing Adrian Peterson despite him finding the end zone twice.  After a big play in the first quarter by Peterson, Detroit shut down the Minnesota running game. That forced the Vikings to pass and the results were not what they would have hoped. The Lions defense was all over Viking QB Christian Ponder sacking him 3 times and forcing 3 interceptions.

The Lions could have won by a wider margin if it wasn’t for penalties.  The Lions committed 11 penalties costing them 88 yards and two touchdowns.
