Mark Dantonio and the Michigan State Spartans may have finally found their quarterback. Connor Cook was impressive as the Spartan quarterback as he led his team to a 55-17 win. Cook was elevated to starter after a series of lackluster performances by nearly every quarterback on the roster. Cook responded by passing for 202 yards and four touchdowns. Those stats were complied in just over 2 quarters of play before Cook was pulled to get red-shirt freshmen Tyler O’Conner some playing time.
The Spartans running game also showed signs of life. Spartan running backs Nick Hill, Jeremy Langford and Riley Bullough combined for 185 yards and 3 touchdowns. Improved passing and rushing numbers helped the Spartans offense finally outscore the Spartan defense in the 55-17 win.
Granted Youngstown State is a division 1-AA school but that doesn’t make this offensive performance any less impressive. The Spartans have struggled mightily on offense this season and today’s performance may give them some stability and confidence going into the Notre Dame game.
