The Arizona Cardinals extended their win streak over the Detroit Lions to five after handing them a 25-21 loss in Phoenix. Prospects for the Lions offense looked good after Matt Stafford hit Calvin Johnson for two touchdowns helping Detroit to 14-10 halftime lead. The lead wouldn’t last as the offense sputtered in the second half and failed to score a touchdown. The only second half scoring for the Lions came from a DeAndre Levy interception return in the third quarter giving the Lions a 21-13 lead. After a Jay Feely field goal in the fourth quarter Arizona took the lead for good on a Rashard Mendenhall touchdown plunge with 1:59 remaining.
The Cardinals contained the Lions running game, limiting Detroit to only 49 rushing yards on 20 attempts. Reggie Bush was not nearly as dominate as he was in week one and was clearly hobbled by injury gaining only 69 total yards. Calvin Johnson was the offensive star this week gaining 116 yards on 6 catches with two touchdowns.
The loss drops the Lions record to 1-1. Next week they travel to face a desperate Redskins team in another tough road test. The skins are 0-2 and need a win to stay involved in the competitive NFC East.
